I decided to get into the indie DIY meets tech side of the Internet and make a website. But since I don't know what to write about, I will start by summarizing my setup.
Below are the tools and resources I used:
It can host up to 1GB for free and has a funky community.
An alternative would have been to host a Github Page but the community on Neocities looked more creative.
The online editor for Neocities is not really usable so I used Github Action to sync my Neocities websites with my Github repository. Your API token for Neocities can be fetched from https://neocities.org/settings/{{your-sitename}}#api_key.
I haven't done anything yet to understand what a static site generator is but I know it lets you write in Markdown and not in HTML, and that sounds pretty neat. There are other options like Hugo and Jekyll.
Should I be embarassed that it took me 2 days just to set all these things up with zero content? Maybe. But my only programming experiences are in ML/algorithms/silly stuff and I'm not an actual software engineer so bare with me.
